Sharing the Meaning of Life from "This" Perspective

What Is Happiness?

Happiness is, of course, going to mean different things to different people. Here are my ideas.

To be happy is the meaning of life. This statement is attested to by various sages both ancient and modern.

But how do you find and keep happiness? Here are the three ideas:

Remainder of text for this post is immediately following this video pane:

1. Make and keep a connection with The Source of All There Is. Some will name this source “God.” You may name it anything you wish, or name it nothing at all. All I ask is that you drop any baggage that the term “God” may have held for you.

2. Experience your life as if it was meaningful – for it is. In other words, seek as many positive experiences as you can hold. This is the purpose of your life.

3. Beam your bliss into the world through experiencing and sharing. When you know meaning, happiness and purpose, this beaming will feel like it must be done.

Here’s what I mean in expanded detail.

It is my belief that in order to be happy you need make a genuine connection to The Source of All There Is. Why? For the simple reason that the world and life in the world cannot give you happiness. You cannot discover real happiness in the world because it is not there.

It is not in the world because all things and even people in the world eventually disappear. There is nothing permanent in the corporal world. It grieves us all that this is the case. But it must be faced for it is something that all of us will face sooner or later.

What is permanent, if anything? It seems to me that the Universe is permanent. The Universe is The Source of All There Is. The energy of the Universe is never lost, never vanishes to never be seen again.

Everything comes from this Source – the Universe. In It you live and move and have your being. Without It you could not be.

But why make a connection to It? Because in It you will find complete and utterly unconditional acceptance. In that acceptance you will find meaning. The meaning of life is to be happy. You find happiness because you are completely accepted as you are.

There is no grander feeling than to be completely, totally accepted – no conditions or qualifications. This is meaning and happiness.

Okay. So finding complete acceptance is to find the meaning of life which is to be happy. But what do you do with your life? What’s your purpose?

Because The Source of All There is the Complete Entity it cannot be in relationship to anything else. It is whole. Yet it needs to feel active, vibrant, real. How does anything know what it feels like to be real?

By interacting with other things. Experiencing itself as over against something else. So, you get to be the interacting agent on behalf of The Source of All There Is. You can experience yourself as experiencing.

What do you need to experience? Everything positive that you can hold or encounter. No one, including The Source, tells you what you must digest as experience. You are free to choose. You choose many, many opportunities over a lifetime.

When you do this encountering, you are living on behalf of The Source. That is your purpose.

When you know the meaning of life, which is to be happy, and when you are experiencing – fulfilling your purpose – you will feel impelled to beam your bliss into the world.

In other words, you will feel like sharing what you know about meaning, happiness, purpose. Just as if you won the lottery and you want to share your good news with everyone, so you will feel about true, real happiness.

You beam your bliss by giving yourself away. That can be done in a myriad of ways. Teach. Donate. Build. Comfort. Encourage. And more.

While you are beaming your bliss, you will be reinforcing your own happiness by spreading that happiness and seeing the results in other people’s lives. You will be developing a pleasant circle (as opposed to a vicious circle).

There you have it: an answer to the question, “What Is happiness?” Get to developing within yourself those three ideas right now.

Happiness Is Not The Goal of Life – Happiness Is The Purpose of Life

You were born as you were. Strange statement, isn’t it? And what does that have to do with the goal and the purpose of life?

To say you were born as you were means that you were just perfect in that new-born state. I do not mean you had all the fingers and toes you were supposed to. Though they are important too.

The remainder of the text for this post is immediately after this video pane:

You were perfectly human. And then you grew through toddler-hood, elementary years, teenage-hood, young adult-hood, etc., to whatever age you are now. In other words, you progress through your ages and stages.

Progressing through ages and stages is what life is all about, really. You are moving on toward enlightenment. I believe you will reach enlightenment in this life or one of your lives to come. It is inevitable.

So the goal of your life is to accomplish enlightenment. Enlightenment, in my view, means you have realized your full self in relationship to THE Full Self. Self-realization. Someone looking at you from the outside would not be able to discern where you leave off and where the Full Self begins.

A goal is an end toward which effort is directed. Enlightenment will be obtained eventually, but perhaps not in this lifetime.

The purpose of life, on the other hand, is to be happy. A purpose is an end to be obtained. Happiness can be found in this lifetime – for sure.

Do you get the subtle yet real difference?

Finding your happiness through meditation and attachment to the Full Self is what you are about in this lifetime. Ever keeping the simmering pot of enlightenment on the back burner.

Every time you make real your linkage to the Full Self, thereby developing or reinforcing your happiness, you move one step closer to enlightenment. But enlightenment is the goal. It may a distant goal for you, as it is for me.

By distant goal I mean I know I will take lifetimes, plural, for me to reach it. This is not to put myself down. It is to be realistic about my present state.

Yes, I was born perfectly human, just as you were. But when I try to look objectively at my present state of spiritual affairs, I see that I am miles away from the goal of enlightenment.

But that’s okay with me because I have the purpose of being happy in this life time on my way to the goal. And being happy in this lifetime moves me down the path toward enlightenment.

Why ought you to care? Because it is the same for you. You were born perfectly human with the goal of enlightenment and with the opportunity to be happy in this lifetime.

By practicing the meditative arts you can be happy here and now. You are moving on toward that final blessed state called enlightenment where there is no desire and no suffering.

In the meantime, you can begin to understand that state through happiness wherein you can leave suffering behind, even in this lifetime.

Liken this to physical health. You workout to increase your physical health. That is your goal. It may some time to attain that goal.

Your purpose in working out is taking the steps toward physical health. Each workout adds to the previous and strength and stamina increase.

Finding happiness is a workout (or workouts) on the way to enlightenment. You really cannot have the goal without the purpose. You really cannot have the purpose without the goal.

Begin today to make a distinction between goal and purpose. Develop your purpose in life, which is to be happy. You will automatically be moving toward your goal of enlightenment.

You Were Born To Beam

You were born to beam. So many folks think and act as if their lives are to be without meaning and without happiness.

Let me make this clear. You are free to choose what your life shall be. I am not trying to tell you that unless you do thus and such, your life is not worthwhile. Never.

This rest of the text follows this video pane:

Whatever life you choose for yourself, it is of significance. The Universe has need of you.

But why not choose more happiness and meaning? Your were born to beam.

By that I mean you have been given a very special place in the Universe. The Cosmos cannot do without you. You may think otherwise, that the Universe can do without you. If you think that way, you are sadly mistaken.

You were born to experience on behalf of the Cosmos, the Mega-Consciousness. The Conscious Cosmos is One. As One it cannot experience for experience is always in relationship to something else. Hot and cold. Light and night. Sharp and dull.

You can and do experience all those dualities. From your experiencings your feed the knowledge base of the Conscious Cosmos.

You come to know you are of value to the Universe through the meditative arts. It is also in meditation that you find your meaning in life, which is to be happy. From meaning, happiness and purpose your life expands in such a way that it seems as if you actually beam your happiness into the substantive world.

Thus, by my logic, you were born to beam. How much you beam is up to you. Make no mistake, though – you beam to some degree in any case. How about choosing to beam better? That is, why not decide to be as happy as you possibly can be?

How does beaming affect your happiness? Simple. The more you beam, the more you reinforce your happiness. Happiness does not come from beaming, but beaming demonstrates happiness.

This is not demonstration to prove to others that you are happy and have meaning and purpose. You never need prove that you are happy to others. This is a demonstration for yourself.

It energizes your happiness. It puts your happiness into the world. When you have found purpose, meaning and happiness, it seems that they spill over into your corporal life.

How do you beam? By sharing your happiness with others. What does your friend need that you can supply? What does your neighbor require that you can help fulfill? What does the world want that you can supply?

Do you see? Beam as you were born to and you will increase your own happiness. The greater the beaming, the greater the actualizing of your life.

There is where your life is going – to actualization. If taken literally, you are making yourself actual. What does it mean to be actual?

It means you can understand yourself as real. That your life, words, actions, count for something. They do even if you do not set out to beam. Your life counts.

But how would you like to witness that it does? Of course you would. You witness your life as reckoning import by beaming your happiness into the world. You do that by serving others from the foundation of your life’s meaning and purpose.

Begin better beaming today.
