Sharing the Meaning of Life from "This" Perspective

The Meaning of Life and Your Center

Your center is most important for you and the meaning of your life. When you live at the periphery, you are missing the meaning of your life.

Now, of course, you may prefer to live at the fringe of your life. It is sometimes dangerous there. When you are not operating from the center of your life, you are far from the excellent decision making tools you already possess.

The rest of the text is found immediately fater this video pane.

For example, suppose you have happened on a shady opportunity, like, say, selling drugs to make money. At the periphery of your being, there is little to think about or care about. You want money so you take this seemingly easy way of getting it. What can it hurt? Folks sell drugs because other folks want drugs. They have chosen the use of drugs. You will just be the supplier. You won’t get hooked either. You are stronger than that.

The problem is, no one living at the outside edges of their own life, has the power to say “No” for long. Too easy to get mixed up in your own product. Too easy to be corrupted by what would seem to be easy money. And lots of it. (Truth is, most drug dealers make very little. Only the king-pins make big money.)

Also, you are operating outside the law. I won’t debate with you here what the law ought to be. In most every place in the United  States, drug trafficking is unlawful.

Can you see where you are going? Operating at the margin of your life, you set yourself up for trouble. No matter how clever you are, corruption is knocking at the door of your life. In order to survive your life-style, you need to change it. You need to move in toward the center.

Why go to the center? That is where you can concentrate who you really are. If you think drugs in any form are necessary to your self-image, then you do not know who you really are. When you live at the fringe, you cannot draw your life into focus. You are who others say you are, at the edges of you. You want to be, need to be, who you really are as you say so.

At the center of you, you get to concentrate. Why concentrate? You need the opportunity to be in contact with the base of your existence. If you are shattered and scattered in little pieces, living at the exterior of your personality, you cannot make contact with the Biggest Seller of All. No, It does sell drugs. It gives meaning and happiness.

But you have got to place the most of yourself you can gather into Its Hands. You can only do that by living at the center of your life. Fragmentation at the edges is a losing proposition. Look at cherry pie, for example. (I love cherry pie.) If you set the whole pie on a table and proceed to bash it with a baseball bat, what happens? It becomes unappetizing to look at. You may not want to eat any of it in that condition. (It may still taste like cherry pie, but looking at it all bashed up, might just turn you off to tasting it.)

Just so with your life. If it is all bashed up, as you live at the edge, it does not resemble a human life. If you insist on living that way, you even risk being turned off by your own self.

What all of us need to do, what you need to do, is bring yourself to your core. Within you, and each of us, lives a core, an essence. It is in this core-essence where you really are. It is literally the heart of who you are. You long to be whole, complete. It is from this nucleus that you make contact with the Big Seller. Although, the Big Seller then becomes the Great Giver. What does It give?

When contact is made and maintained, you get meaning and happiness. The Great Giver helps you pull yourself together as It invites you to be who you really are. When you are you, you have no need to live at the fringes of your self. As you are turned into your center you become your true being.

Like a Spring Flower Happiness and Meaning Unfold

I have always said, Take care of this life and the next life will take care of itself. So, we must do our part to see that we make the most of this life. But more, when we take care of this life internally, not only will the next life take care of itself, so too will the life outside ourselves today. The contemporary outside life will unfold automatically. We can respond well to the circumstances of our lives.

The remainder of the text is found immediately after this video pane:

When a flower of any sort is planted properly, watered sufficiently, feed rightly, it will blossom in its time.

That is a near perfect metaphor of your life. When you take the effort to cultivate the inner life, finding meaning and happiness, your worldly life will be well-handled. Your response to life will be as appropriate as is possible for you in that moment.

Let’s start with your inner part of the this bearing of blossoms.

At your being-core, there is a nexus between yourself and the God/Universe (whatever term you may care to use, other than God/Universe, will work just as well). You become aware of this nexus through prayer or meditation.

You may discover as you meditate that there are a number of what might be called levels. I hesitate to label or otherwise enumerate these levels. Because, first, these levels are not achieved but advanced upon over the natural course of meditation as a life style choice.

Nor, second, is one trying to beat anyone else to the next higher level. There is no competition in meditation, only a sincere desire to rise through the levels yourself and aid any other who might ask of you the way.

The God/Universe is found through stillness and relaxed thought. When contact is made and maintained, happiness is the result of this stillness and thought. Happiness in this context is to realize that you are a necessary and a needed part of the existence of the Divine. You are an individuation of the Divine. Without you, the Universe is not complete.

When you are out of touch with the Divine, the Divine is not complete, you are not complete. Because you are a necessary and a needed part of the Divine, you are accepted and loved just as you are, with all your history, past, present and future unconditionally accepted by the Divine.

When you feel this happiness and acceptance, you will know the meaning of your life. What are you to do as an individuation of the Divine? Just what you are doing now – experiencing. You did not know that before you found your happiness. Now you know that you are to experience, for what else could you be needed for, more important than experiencing.

There is no separation between yourself and the Divine. You have found that in your meditation over time. So what can you do for the Divine? You feel this need within to express your happiness and meaning. What do you need to do?

If the Divine is All There Is, and you are part of that Divinity by your very existence, what can you do to support the Divine and support your own life? Here is the answer: Because the Divine is Pure Consciousness, It knows everything. It has everything. It is everything. The one thing the Divine cannot do because it is Pure Consciousness, is to experience. That is where you came into the Universal Picture.

You with your spirit riding and dwelling in a physical body, you can experience. You contend with life every day, every hour. While contending with life, you experience all sorts of things. You do for the Divine what the Divine cannot do for Itself.

So, you let life open before you. You then unfold yourself to what is happening in life. Like a flower experiences the spring. The weather changes like your own experiences alter when dealing with the changes in your life. When the time is ripe, you unfold yourself, as the blossom you are, to experience Spring. The warmth of the sun, the nourishment of the soil, the thirst slaking of rain water, encourages you to open to these experiences. Life presents you with a pattern. You respond to that pattern by burgeoning.

When you have done your part to be ready for the spring by fulfilling yourself internally, with meaning and happiness, you unfold yourself, bloom, as a flower responding to Spring.

When you have done your part in happiness and meaning by making eternal connection with the Divine, you respond to life as it happens around you. Coming from the spiritual stage of happiness and meaning, you are prepared to make the best and the most of whatever life offers you.

Do your part within. Then, without, your experiences will unfold in the way that you want them to.

Two Sides Each to the Meaning of Life and Happiness

There are dual sides to Meaning in Life, and Happiness which is the meaning of life. Actually, meaning and happiness are two sides to the same coin. I know of three-sided coins: Heads and tails and the edge of the coin. I have never conceived of a four-sided coin until writing this article.

Surely this makes me a little weird. A designation I happily accept. But I digress. (Always wanted to use “But I digress” in a sentence.)

The text continues following this video pane.

As in geometry, let’s try a four-sided square. That might work out. In your mind’s eye, picture a black line square on a piece of white paper. The square, of course has four sides. Without any one of these sides, the square would not be. Each of the four sides is requisite to the entire square.

I am using a square instead of rectangle because a rectangle can have two sides of one length and the other two sides of another length. (Of course, a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not necessarily a square.)

So, each side of a square is the same length and all four sides are needed to make a perfect square. Thus it is with meaning and happiness. There are two paired sides of our square; one of those sides has the words “inside-happiness” and the other, opposite side, has the words “outside-happiness.” Then, of course, there are two more sides of the square. They are the reverse of each other as well. Those two sides carry the words meaning-inside and meaning-outside, respectively.

How does it apply to your life? What does this mean?

Conspicuously, without any one of those sides, the square falls apart. Its structured is compromised.

Just so with your life. If any of the sides is neglected in your life, your life will not be complete. You would be scooting around the inside of glass jar like a captured insect. Something would be lacking. Something would be missing. You would feel disaffected; you would feel unrealized.

How do you avoid feeling? Simple. Make sure that all four sides of you life are healthy.

You do that by fostering the growth of all four sides of the square. (By the way, following this illustration in your life – does not make you square. If you are old enough, you will understand this comment. If you are not old enough to understand it, just forget I ever said anything about making you square.)

There is no order as to where you need to begin. As long as you keep them all in equilibrium, you’ll do fine. In other words, keep all of them bucked up on a regular basis.

Inside – Happiness There is no greater question than what does one do to be happy. Though there is time and effort involved, the answer is, once again, simple. To be happy you need to develop and encourage a connection with the Spirit/Universe. You get that connection through meditation.

You need to know that you are an individuation of the Spirit/Universe. You are a distinct and valuable part of the Spirit/Universe. When you own this concept through meditation, you will be happy. The Spirit/Universe is out for the well-being of all. What is better than to feel that happiness.

Inside – Meaning of Life When you have found happiness in your core, you will soon discover the meaning of life. As an individuation of the Divine/Universe, you will come to know what you need to do. You need to experience on behalf of the Divine/Universe.

The Divine/Universe is Consciousness; we are conscious. Because the Divine/Universe is Pure Consciousness, It cannot of Itself experience.

We are integral parts of the Consciousness/Universe who are living in and using bodies. So, whereas the Divine cannot physically experience, we can. We, therefore, experience on behalf of the Divine.

The highest experience we may have is to be happy. To experience everything with happiness in mind.

Outside – Happiness From your inner bliss, you beam our bliss into the substantial world. Yes, do say it: Make this a glad place to live. We do that in at least two ways.

First, we make our own personal life as full of well-being as possible. Second, we help make the world a place of well-being for as many others as we can.

That means you do everything possible to make life good for yourself and others. I thought it might be a good idea to put a list of things we could do to make this world a better place for all. I realized, however, that whatever list I made, it could never be complete.

First I could not cover each life, the life of every human being. Second, it would not be complete because the world is ever changing.

No matter, we still need to make this time as filled with well-being as possible for everyone – including ourselves.

Outside – Meaning We have found meaning inside as we discovered we are offspring of the Spirit/Universe. Our destination, then, needs to be the schooling of as many people as possible in the sentiment that the profoundest meaning is found in happiness.

What do we do? We teach gratitude for everything. We educate ourselves and everyone else we can, on the proclamation that everyone can find meaning in their lives by being grateful for everything in their lives. Everything: The tragic, the sublime, the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful.

Being grateful for everything in our lives helps us understand that we are to experience everything in gratitude.

All cannot fit on a four-sided coin because that kind of coin does not exist. However, these four sides fit very easily in your life.

Everything we experience ties us back to the Spirit/Universe. Then we come full circle back to happiness and meaning.
