The Meaning of Life and Your Mental Capacity as a Holographic Tool

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Obviously, your mental capacity has a lot to do with the meaning of life. Your brain, after all, is where the mind finds part of its residence. I have been reading recently from The Holographic Universe, by Michael Talbot. The items Talbot talks about are astounding. For example, and in my own words, the mind is far, far larger, more vast than anyone ever imagined.

But what does this have to do with the meaning of life? Well, for one thing, we can say that the meaning of life, to be happy, is not confined to the physical structure, or grey matter, of mental capacity. The mind and/or brain is one part of a giant hologram – the Universe. Essentially that means that any part of the universe, no matter its size, contains the whole of the Universe. Just like any part of a true piece of holographic film holds the whole of the image on the film.

(What’s a hologram? Look on any of your credit cards and you will find a symbol that seems to come off the surface toward you. That is in essence a holographic image. Or remember the first in the series of Stars Wars to come out. Princess Leia’s holographic image is projected from C-3PO, as Leia tries to contact Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi.)

If the entire Universe is a hologram and your mental capacity is one part of that hologram, the whole Universe is out for you to be happy. The Universe “wants” you to be happy.

Why? Happiness may be defined as harmony, perfect harmony. So the Universe, being total or perfect in and of itself, seeks Its own happiness. But when It does, It takes you “along with it.” Because it is holographic, each “piece” of it contains the Total. So, you as a piece of the Total, your highest value, so to speak, is to be happy, as the Universe is and seeks to be. The meaning of life is in the very Structure of the Universe AND, therefore, in your own mental capacity.

In Freedom You Can Find the Meaning of Life

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Took me awhile but then it dawned on me. “Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light …” The United Sates of America is a country where we are free. But what does that have to do with the meaning of life? We are free to pursue happiness. You recognize the idea from the Declaration of Independence.

However, in the days when the Declaration was first written, to pursue happiness had more of the meaning to practice happiness. So, we are free to practice happiness. We can do the things we wish as long as we harm no one else (that is, for the most part, break no laws). We are free to be what we wish to be: good, bad or indifferent. (We may get locked up for doing bad things.) But we can strive to a great contributor to our culture. Or we can be a couch-potato all our lives and no one will really hassle us about that. The point, of course, is that there are many places in the world where this cannot be. People are not free. (Indeed, in some countries, women are slaves, pure and simple. Certainly, we have and had exceptions in our own country too. People for reasons of their religion, race, culture, etc., have been enslaved or abused. We cannot simply gloss that over and pretend it never happened.)

However, I believe we can say, and I hope I am right, we are the freest people on earth.

Now, I need to go further and say to you that no matter your circumstances, you are free in your spirit and can be free in your spirit. The seat, the throne of happiness is your spirit as connected to The Source of All That Is. In this freedom, you are truly free. Short of torture beyond endurance, no one can take your happiness away from you because it resides in your spirit. There have even been incidents where persons of extreme spiritual resolve had kept their happiness even in torture beyond normal human fortitude.

Life’s meaning is found in being happy. Being happy is found in your spirit. Your spirit is found as your engage yourself with The Source. Freedom reminds us all of the meaning of life, to be happy.

I wholeheartedly invite comments and concerns.

Let The Meaning of Life Be a Matter of Relaxed Vigilance

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I often find myself trying too hard to capture and hold the meaning of life. Seems like an incongruity, doesn’t it? Here I am “being happy” and instead I find myself striving after happiness as the meaning of life. I get myself wound up and can’t let go.

You may not be old enough to remember wind-up watches and clocks. Please let me tell you about them, a little. These wind-up time-pieces had what’s called a main spring within them. You wound that spring up using a key for a clock, or a stem on a watch. When the spring was coiled, it stored energy which it released “over time” (pun intended). As the spring uncoiled, it force the mechanism within the clock or watch to move. The gears and sprockets within the time piece caused the spring to loosen at a set rate. Thus “keeping time.”

But, you could wind these springs too tight. Then the clock or watch would lock up and not work at all. So, you had to be careful to wind well, but not too tightly. That’s the case with us, human beings. We need to be energized, to receive power, but we need to be careful not to wind ourselves too tightly or we will be under so much tension, we cannot work effectively. The springs in the watches or clocks had to be coiled to a relaxed tension. No more.

How do we translate that to ourselves? We need to be keeping watch (again, pun intended, even if it is a bad one) over ourselves to see that we are doing things like meditating or praying to make connection with The Source of All That Is. But we need to be relaxed about it. There is no hurry, no deadline. God has always been there and will always be. As long as we make the effort “to be happy,” we will find happiness and, thus, the meaning of life.

We must keep vigilant lest we slip away from being happy. But we need to be relaxed about it. Happiness is always there, always with us. Never farther than our next conscious heartbeat. We need not stress ourselves over finding and keeping the meaning of life.

I wholeheartedly invite comments and concerns.
