Take Control of Your Inner Life and Your Understanding of the Meaning of Life Will Increase

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Many people go into their bedroom, stand in the middle of the floor and cannot remember what they were after.

Its not that they have a serious disease; it’s just that their minds have rolled on to the next thing before they got from the bedroom what they wanted. Suppose you were going the play golf and you needed your shoes which are stored in your bedroom closet. But after getting to the bedroom, you draw a blank. What are you doing there? What were you after? A simple thing made more complicated by the fact that your mind has gone on to the next step and the next step in preparation of swinging the driver on the first tee. Do you see? It’s not a faulty memory you’re dealing with. It’s simply that your mind has been rolling onto the next thing. What comes next in getting ready to golf, or in dealing with family issues? So you’ve forgotten what you set out to do.

In order to take control of your inner life and your short term memory,

you need to be present in the moment.

Not the last moment or last week. Not the next moment or next week. Be present in this moment. It is, after all, the minute you really have. Ruminating about the past won’t change it. Supposing about the future won’t guarantee it.

How do you do take control of your inner life? You use individual spiritual endeavor to focus, concentrate in this moment. Pull your mind away, by the power of your spirit, from beguilement. Spirit rules the mind when you make the effort to have the spirit do so. Take a moment to stop and think. Stop and think? But I just said the spirit rules the mind. By the power of the will which is contained within the spirit, make yourself halt and reckon. Concentrate on this minute. What is it you need to be or do in THIS moment?

What does this have to do with the Meaning of Life? Everything. Your life consists of this moment. That moment is defined in your inner life. If you miss this moment, you have missed the meaning of your life.
