The meaning of life, to be happy, is available to all. Many times while observing the conversations on Twitter, I come across people who say they do not deserve happiness. By fuzzy logic I say, we all deserve happiness or none of us does.
Can you really say that some one does not deserves happiness? (Watch out, now, I switched directions while you weren’t looking.) Can anyone in their right mind say that some other person does not deserve happiness? No. No one can say that, because no one knows the exact circumstances that led that person to where he or she is right now. Sure, sure, we may dislike the person, terribly dislike them, even hate them. But any reasonable person will know that you cannot say the other does not deserve happiness.
Why can’t that be said? Because then the same may be said about you. For example, I know that I have psychological enemies. There are people who do not like me or what I say. Some will be vehemently opposed. But just because they dislike me does not mean they can claim that I do not deserve happiness. Moreover, they cannot keep me from being happy on the inside, at the core of my spirit, or being. This is where happiness actually and truly resides.
Look at Nelson Mandela: 27 years imprisoned by an opposing government. Yet, when freed from prison he lead a movement of reconciliation. No one is capable of such magnanimity without happiness at the core of their being. An oppressive government sought to rob him of his happiness by imprisonment. That robbery never took place; Mandela kept it in his core.
So all of us deserve happiness because we cannot say that so-and-so does not deserve happiness.
I know, I know, this is a long road for a short trip. But I cannot say that even the worst criminal does not deserve happiness at the core of his or her life. Oh, yes, do not mistake me, they must be held accountable for their crime. Due punishment must be meted out under the laws of the land. (Lest anyone wonder, I am NOT speaking about Nelson Mandela here.) But if this criminal will look inside and connect with The Cosmic Consciousness, and through that connection, find happiness, I cannot deny it to them. First, I do not have such power. Second, I am not the one who grants happiness, The Cosmic Consciousness does.
I believe every sentient being deserves happiness. Happiness of the sort that comes through the connection to and with The Cosmic Consciousness. Bliss. All deserve happiness or none do. The meaning of life is happiness. Grant to yourself that deservedness. Grant to everyone else the same.
