The Meaning of Life and How to Find Your Authentic Self
One of my readers wants to know the meaning of life and how to find his authentic self. This is a great inquiry because so many people have exactly that question. It may be framed in many different ways, but it all boils to: “How can I be real?” Or “How can I really be me?”
There can be no meaning in life if one does not feel real. Not some made-up character who performs for family and friends. But someone who has his/her own values, convictions and life style.
First, you’ve got to determine who you are really. So, I’ll give you my definition of who you really. “You are a child of the Universe, no less than stars.” You must realize that you are part and parcel of this Universe in which we live. Your atoms and other subatomic particles are the same as those of the stars all across the Universe. But more than substance, you are Spirit. Your spirit and the Spirit that is the Universe is you as well.
It is like being a player-coach (or player-manager). You not only direct the game but you are in the game as well. You decide to acquire and practice this role. Yes, you make a conscious decision to feel that you are in the Universe and also a part of the Universe. In a real sense, then, you are the Universe. This does not puff-you-up, though. When you realize how vast the Universe is, you know you need to remain humble. I did not say humiliated, I said “humble.” Which means you are unpretending, unpretentious.
Second, after you have made the decision to know your true place in the Universe, you seek confirmation. You do that through meditation wherein you become connected to the Divine Consciousness. Those of us, I, fortunately, count myself among them, who have made contact with the Divine Consciousness, have their minds, spirits, lives expanded to encompass the whole of the Universe. We are, for a time, lifted out of ourselves and “made to feel and see” the Oneness of all Creation. It is in the spiritual place that we find the meaning of life, to be happy.
Third, from this core of Oneness we experience our Bliss. As an authentic person, you project or beam this bliss into the world. Suppose you find your Bliss in connection with Supreme Consciousness. That Bliss gives you to see that you ought to be a mechanic. Or a musician, Or a teacher. Or a political leader. Please try to hear me and believe me when I say to you, that when you are at your Bliss, you will “see” who you really are and from that, what you really ought to do in the world. Bliss first, beam second is the true order of things, in my view.
Fourth, you will know you are on your bliss-beam-path, your authentic self, when you test everything you do and say, against what your bliss conveys you are. When you are going on the bliss-beam-path, what is authentic for you to do or say or be will resonate positively within you. You will feel this is right for you, in other words. It may even be a physical sensation in the torso of your body. A warm, pleasant vibration there that says, “everything is OK; everything is as it ought to be.”
Firth, this does not necessarily happen overnight. You’ve got to give yourself pace and patience and practice. Grow in meditation. Grow in finding your Bliss within. Grow in beaming that bliss to the substantive world.

Bliss-Beam Path
So, as you follow the above mentioned five items, you’ll be on your way to your authentic self. Actually, you will be carrying out your authentic self. Your authentic self is found through discovering the meaning of life, which is to be happy.

The meaning of life is contained in the wings of a butterfly. Somewhere in South America a beautiful butterfly flutters its wings to go from one flower to the next. It flits about gaining its sustenance. The butterfly, just being itself, from its essence, its being, flies from one blossom to another seeking food. But in the course of flicking its wings, those wing-movements set up a vortex of minute power. Power enough, mind you, to propel the butterfly around the garden. So, just being what it is, the wing-vortexes of that butterfly set in motion the great winds of a hurricane. (This has been demonstrated theoretically.) In other words, one small gesture on the part of the butterfly fixed one the greatest forces in nature there is.
