Sharing the Meaning of Life from "This" Perspective

The Meaning of Life: To Be Happy and What Did I Do to Deserve This?

The meaning of life and to be happy have something to do with karma. Karma is simply, yet completely, defined as “the effects of one’s actions.” Like 2 + 2 = 5. Or like when you open a window and the breeze blows in. Yes, I deliberately chose illustrations that are innocent. Because karma does not always bring bad consequences.

Further, karma is not punishment for something you have done or not done. You must see this. It is simply the effects of one’s actions. When something bad happens to you, it may be, I repeat, may be caused by something you did. But it is in no way punishment. Nor is it, then, reward for something you have done right. It is like blowing out the flame on a burning candle. You blow air out your lungs toward the flame and if the air volume is sufficient and forceful enough, the flame is extinguished.

That does not mean, however, that someone else cannot inflict pain upon you. Because that pain is inflicted does not necessarily mean you have done anything wrong. People are free. They will do what they want. Sometimes people do bad things. The hurt you feel from such events may not have been caused by what you did or did not do.

So, you have got to live with the consequences, effects, of what you do or say. That’s karma. But when you feel hurt it does not mean, absolutely, you have done anything to deserve that pain.

There are those who say that the effects of what we do can be carried over several or many lifetimes to be worked out. In other words, one could have done something so heinous in another life that the effects of that act are still being worked out in this life. And maybe it takes more than one lifetime to work them through.

What I say is this: You deserve the best. You are a child of The Creative Spirit; you are spirit yourself. As such all the best is yours, as long as you don’t stand in the way of it. When pain comes your way, as it does for all of us, you haven’t inescapably done something to cause it. Yes, it could be the working out of the effects of some past behavior of yours. Or, it could be that some free human being has caused this pain.

Don’t automatically assume you deserve hurt. DO assume the you deserve the best. The effects of your actions will work themselves out. But the affliction you feel at any moment is not inescapably of your doing.

The meaning of life, to be happy, has to do with accepting that you deserve the very best. Which you do. Believe it. Live it.

The Meaning of Life and False Hopelessness – Part Two

A Smiling Face Comes from a Smiling HeartThe meaning of life is contained in the wings of a butterfly. Somewhere in South America a beautiful butterfly flutters its wings to go from one flower to the next. It flits about gaining its sustenance. The butterfly, just being itself, from its essence, its being, flies from one blossom to another seeking food. But in the course of flicking its wings, those wing-movements set up a vortex of minute power. Power enough, mind you, to propel the butterfly around the garden. So, just being what it is, the wing-vortexes of that butterfly set in motion the great winds of a hurricane. (This has been demonstrated theoretically.) In other words, one small gesture on the part of the butterfly fixed one the greatest forces in nature there is.

You, too, from who you are really, on the inside, put into motion all kinds of events that would not have happened had you not. Follow me now. You move your hand through the air. It seem a meaningless gesture. But you have set molecules of air in motion that would not have been had you not gestured thus. Perhaps you began a cool breeze that comforted the brow of sweating road worker. He surely needed that breeze at the precise moment.

Where the meaning of life is to be happy, think what positive forces you set in motion each time you do something from your positive outlook. When you are happy inside by being in connection to the Great Is, you beam your happiness to the world outside of you.

A smiling face comes from a smiling heart.

So, I declare to you, from this perspective anyway, that there is no hopelessness. You, individually, by yourself, can do something to affect real change in your world. You can begin with a smile beamed at all possible persons in all possible circumstances. (Certainly, a smile is not appropriate in every situation. That would be looney.) But in all possible circumstances. Therefore, you cannot be caught in false hopelessness. Because there is always something you can do.

The smallest kindness can set the whole world toward positive change. A random act of philanthropy can change the world. It is only when you perceive yourself as helpless in every circumstance, that you are. When you sense yourself as free to be able to affect a change, no matter how small, that you may indeed change the world. Just think of the butterfly in South American.

Life Phrase Five – Distinguish Yourself – As You Act in the World

eye distinguish yourself 625 x 100

One of my granddaughters has developed a unique self-style. Believe it or not, she even twice pierced her own lower lip. (I do not recommend this.) She wears heavy black makeup around her eyes in what she names as the “Emo” fashion. (A check on the Internet gives a number of websites dedicated to Emo.) She wears her hair in the sharp contrast of Emo as well.

My point is that everyone wants to be distinctive. She gets looks from most other people when she is at school or out at a restaurant with her grandparents. She comments that people are looking and that sometimes she likes that and sometimes she doesn’t like it. We say, as kindly as possible, “If you are going to dress like that, you’re going to get looks.”

But being distinctive is as old as humankind. What differentiates you from others? Are we unique unto ourselves or do you wholly conform to the group? So there have been tattoos, body piercings, headdress styles, clothing styles, the wearing of jewelry that comes in great variety from shells to diamonds, all through the recorded history of humankind. That one may stand out from the others.

Such differences among people have been lauded and worshiped or vilified and assassinated. Or something in between. We are want to be different enough to be ourselves. We all know, however, that physical appearance is no real indication of distinctiveness. We all realize, instinctively, that what we are comes from who we are on the inside. What we are on the inside makes us what we are on the outside.

“From being stirs doing.”

A key life phrase, then, is “Distinguish yourself.” Be who your are, for sure. But the sureness comes from inside. Someone starts a fashion and others follow, even if in their own individual ways. Let your outward expression be a refraction of your inward being. This is the only way to be true to yourself in the short and long term.

Refraction is defined as how light, sound, heat, or the like, passes through one medium into another. To make your unique contribution to the world, to distinguish yourself from all others, you must let the light of the Divine Consciousness pass through you and be seen in the substantial world. But to do that you need to know who you are on the inside. You do that through meditation and encountering who you really are in connection to the Divine Consciousness. Let me assure you that as the Light passes through your, others will see your uniqueness. Let me also assure that the Divine Consciousness does not dictate to you what the refraction will look like. You are totally free to be.

So, distinguish yourself. Be who you are singularly. Begin by finding out who you are inwardly. Then let the refraction of Divine Consciousness come through you and paint pictures of your individuality on the canvas of the world.
