Five Ways To Be Happy After You Have Found Meaning and Happiness

People look at happiness in different ways. I believe, however, that the very basis of true and lasting happiness is a connection with The Source of All There Is.

You make and keep that connection through the meditative arts. Meditation and or prayer are the foundational meditative arts. There are several different kinds of prayer as defined by religious organizations. There are scores of ways to meditate.

Choose a way to be in meditation that fits you. Use that art to make and maintain a linkage with The Source of All There Is.

The remainder of the text for this post follows immediately after this video pane:

Then choose one or more of the following to help cement happiness in your day-to-day life. Happiness is based on a connection with The Source of All There Is. But that must manifest itself in every day living. Here are five ways to do that.

Way One: Do not forget to have fun. Easy enough, isn’t it?

But you might be surprised at how many people think scheduling fun is wrong-headed. They think fun needs to be totally spontaneous. I am certainly not against spontaneity.

Workaholics, for example, tend to work all the time. Then crash when not working. What they need for their own good, and the good of their relationships, is to actually schedule in some fun.

If not, they will burn out. Trust me on this, I have been there. Pushing, pushing, pushing was I in my career years. I burned out on at least three occasions because I did not have enough fun.

Don’t let that happen to you. If you have difficulty ad-libbing into recreation, schedule it.

Way Two: Find new avenues to explore using what you consider to be your strengths – express yourself. This can be anything from physical labor, like chopping wood, to expressing yourself by writing poetry.

Once again, you need to do this on a regular basis. You do not necessarily need to be scheduling this activity or activities. However, you need to find some way of making it regular.

Neglect in expressing yourself will lead to a stuffed-in feeling. I know this is difficult for the males who are reading this, perhaps more so than for the females. Men have been trained, by-in-large, to hold in expressions of themselves. Women are sometimes encouraged to express themselves quite freely.

Nothing wrong, essentially, with either of these approaches. But leaving expressions bottled up inside clogs the arteries of the spirit. We all have spirit and we all need the spirit to be free flowing.

Express yourself in some positive way on a sustainable foundation.

Way Three: If you are a people person, thrive your relationships. That is, put energy into your friendships and kinships.

We like to think that relationships just happen and that we do not need to specifically invest energy into them. Please let me explain to you that friendships and kinships do not happen by themselves.

I apologize if you already know that. When I look around at my own family and the families of many others (not all, of course) it is apparent to me that folks either don’t know this idea or don’t care about it.

In other words, relationships and kinships suffer all the time from lack of attention. To thrive any affiliation needs care. If not, they fall apart. And the longer they are apart, the harder it feels like it would be to repair and reinvigorate them.

Invest in human communities be they of three people or thirty.

Way Four: find out what your purpose is. You may already have an idea for yourself. Follow your chosen purpose. Yes, I said “your chosen purpose.” You choose who you will be. You choose what purpose you will pursue.

Now, if you don’t have any idea what purpose is yours, here’s an idea.

When you have made contact and connection with The Source of All There Is, and you have found total and unconditional acceptance there, you will be happy. The Source accepts you without qualifications of any kind. No greater happiness is there than total acceptance.

When you have felt that acceptance, then you are ready to assume a purpose in life. The Source is a Single Entity – a Singularity. The source encompasses the entire Universe. It is the entire Universe.

As a singularity, it cannot experience because it is complete within itself. We experience by being in relationship to other things and people. The Source cannot do that as It is a singularity.

So, The Source needs you to experience on Its behalf. You can be in relation to any number of things and folks. Your purpose in life can be to experience – all that is possible for you to hold.

I recommend you try to experience everything positive as the negative will usually get you into trouble.

Experience is, or can be, your purpose in life.

Way Five: accomplish something. Many people, perhaps you yourself, feel themselves driven to accomplish something. Leave a legacy.

I was that way once, so I know where you are, if you are there – driven.

Set goals. Devise mile-markers that describe your progress to those goals. Take little steps or take giant steps. Get off your duff and achieve.

As long as you don’t burn yourself out, see above, be driven all you want.

As long as you don’t neglect relationships, see above, be driven and achieve.

As long as you don’t neglect expressing yourself, see above, be driven and accomplish.

As long as you don’t neglect your great purpose, which is to experience, see above,  be impelled and attain.

There you have five possible ways to develop your happiness in your world. Choose one or more, even all five, and use them. Start now.

A Zen View of Life in Three Stages

Filed under: The Meaning of Life — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — db4u2 @ 6:47 am January 10, 2012

I am not a Zen master, nor pretend to be. However, Zen seems to be part of my life and, I bet, it is part of your life. Perhaps we can define Zen as a way of seeing that is beyond the ordinary.

That said, I feel there are three stages that will fulfill your purpose in life. I believe that purpose is to experience as much positive stuff as possible. These three stages, when recognized and developed, propel you forward toward fulfilling your purpose.

Here they are:

Stage One: Affirm Yourself – You are here and now to fulfill your karma. The responses that you have accumulated over lifetimes need to be fulfilled in this lifetime. In other words, you have a purpose.

The rest of the text for this post comes right after this video pane:

You fulfill that purpose by finding happiness which is the result of your search for meaning. Meaning is found in a profound and wonderful relationship with the Source of All There Is.

In that relationship you discover that you are affirmed fully, completely, unconditionally by the Source of All There Is.

You take that affirmation and affirm yourself. Affirming yourself means to unconditionally accept yourself as you are, right now. It does not mean that there is no room for improvement. It means you all right just as you are.

Stage Two: Mature Yourself – Reorient yourself to benefit other sentient beings. The expression of your own happiness is to let that joy overflow you and let it well over onto all others.

This takes a change of thinking. We are all naturally oriented to ourselves. This is a survival mechanism. If we did not desire food and safety, etc., we would not survive.

But, of course, this can be carried too far. We cannot only be for ourselves. When one is only for himself or herself, others can be cut off from what they need.

You need to turn in the direction where others benefit from your life as well your benefitting from your life. Why? It fulfills your karma and creates more positive karma. In other words, by sharing your happiness you reinforce it.

But to do this you need an attitude of sharing. In others words, you want a mature attitude – one that goes beyond, but does not forget, the self.

Karma may be another way of saying experience. By doing all you can to experience all the positive you can, you are fulfilling past karma and building new and favorable karma.

Stage Three: Dissolve Yourself. Here is the ultimate mature attitude. You let go of everything. You detach. You seek complete freedom from self. In some ways of thinking this is called achieving Buddha-hood.

When you wish complete freedom, complete happiness, you let go. You detach from possessions, achievements, relationships, even your own life.

This does not mean that you can have no relationships. It means that you need to realize that all relationships end in this life. It does not mean that you can have no possessions. It does mean that possessions are vanishing even as we speak.

It does not mean that you ought not take care of the body in which you now reside. Your present body is also your responsibility and you need to see to its well-being. But you must also always carry the notion that you will one day lay down this earthly shell and walk as spirit through the corridors of the Universe.

There you have a Zen View of Life in Three Stages:
    1. Affirm Yourself.
    2. Mature Yourself.
    3. Dissolve Yourself.
What are you doing about these three right now? Do something about them, now.
