Death – Unending Life and Happiness

It has been said that death can undo and destroy the meaning of life. I am here, now, to dispute that claim. I say that death can destroy the meaning of life, which is to be happy, only if you let it.

First, let us look at death. I know it is an unpleasant subject. But unless you look death in the eye and deny its power over you, it will destroy meaning and happiness.

The remainder of the text for this post are immediately following this video pane:

Persons have been investigating Near Death Experiences (NDE) for many decades. This is the phenomenon that happens when a person dies clinically, yet experiences something positive and then is revived and can report the experience to others.

Folks who experience this generally see themselves as moving through a tunnel. At the other end of this tunnel they meet a being of light. This being shows them their entire lives. But the being of light adds no judgments or evaluations of one’s life.

Indeed, it seems the being of light is filled with compassion and love for the person undergoing this event. Unconditional love is displayed for the person in a NDE.

Often the person in a NDE sees relatives or friends who have gone before. Each recognizes the other.

Sometimes the person is given an opportunity to choose to stay where they are, in the afterlife, or to come back to this plane of existence and live out their days. Those who choose to come back here, never fear death again. They even look forward with pleasant anticipation to their death in the course of the natural way.

Second, there is the regression of souls. This is when someone remembers something of their former life, perhaps in another time and place. This happens most often, it seems, with children, those who are close to the time of reincarnation.

These children, though many adults can be counted in this number, remember things about past lives that they could not possibly know through this present life. They are too young to do any kind of research. Their parents declare they have never taught these children anything about someone else’s past lives. Investigators thoroughly look into each case of regression.

Third, ancient wisdom of many types and from several cultures, emphasizes unending life. It is declared that the Buddha could look back over 100,000 lives when he came to enlightenment. The Tibetan Book of the Dead also describes unending life. Other religions like Christianity say there is life after death as well.

My point is that when you look for such ideas, you will find a superior abundance of them. Literally source after source, both ancient and modern, have shown there to be unending life. It has been demonstrated in Near Death Experiences and the regression of souls.

So, death cannot undo meaning and happiness, unless you let it. If viewed from a particular angle, death can only reinforce meaning and happiness. How so?

I believe the meaning of life is to be happy. You find that happiness and meaning by forging a spiritual link between yourself and the Cosmic Consciousness that many folks will name God. In and through that connection you will see that you are unconditionally valued just as you are.

When you know yourself to be unconditionally loved just as you are, you have found the happiness that passes all understanding. That is the meaning of your life. From that meaning comes your purpose in life – to experience. By living, breathing, running, jumping, learning, growing, loving, seeing, and all other ways of experiencing, you are fulfilling your purpose.

Because there is life after death, that purpose never ends. You go on experiencing forever. Which brings you right back to happiness as you are fulfilling your purpose which you learned about via the connection you have with the Cosmic Consciousness. All this adds up to the meaning of your life. Death cannot destroy that because there is no such thing as death.

Live today and do not concern yourself with tomorrow. Life never ends. Meaning never quits. Happiness can be forever.

No Need To Burn the Candle At Both Ends – There Is Enough Flame For All

There once was a king who wished his subjects to be happy. But he did not know what to do. He thought that if he gave away too much, there would not be any left for him and his own happiness.

This idea really depressed him. He felt himself caught on the horns of a dilemma. His duty was to his subjects. He wanted to be a good king: to protect and defend his people, to see that their lives were as good as could be.

The text follows immediately after this video pane:

But his only experience had been with gold. There seemed to be a limited supply of it. If he gave away all his gold to assure his people’s benefit, what would he have left? Yet he did not wish to be selfish.

His advisers assured him that if he gave away some of his gold, the taxes from the incomes of his people would be sufficient to replace that gold. So he very fairly set up a program whereby his subjects gained some of the kingdom’s gold. They would put it to use in their farms and shops.

They certainly generated income from this infusion of capital. The gross kingdom profit rose exponentially. Yet when the tax collectors came to take a fair measure of the people’s incomes, the people grumbled and mildly protested.

The king explained that such money was used to keep the army fit and ready. To have the navy prepared for sea attack. To keep government employees in their own incomes. To pay for the household expenses of the king.

Still the people belly-ached. Their disposable income was being cut by the taxes. Nothing the king could do would relieve this carping. His advisers said that he just ought to let the people grumble. He was well within in right as king.

Still, the king was uneasy in his days and in his sleep. He thought that there must be some kind of remedy. What could he give his people wherein they would profit but have no cause to carp? What could he give away that would never be diminished by his giving.

He chanced to be riding in the country outside his capital. He had a small retinue with him so as to attract as little attention as possible. His groom led the party to a small but active stream to water the horses.

The king heard laughing nearby. He motioned his retainers to stay where they were and be quiet. The king crept toward the laughter.

There, at the stream’s edge, hidden behind dense undergrowth, were a father and son, fishing. Though it did not appear that they were taking the fishing very seriously. They had no fish waiting on the stream bank to take home for supper.

What they did have, it was abundantly clear, was a great deal of fun and laughter between them. The son, about age 10, splashed water at his father. He roared with laughter and splashed back. Soon both were soaking wet and they fell into each others arms in gales of mirth.

Both looked supremely happy.

The king had his epiphany. He could give happiness away and never diminish his own. Like a candle that is used to light a million other candles. Though one candle lighted a million others, its own light and length of life was never decreased.

The king stole away from the stream-side scene and hurried back to his retainers. His swung into his saddle with a great grin splitting his face. He raced back to his capital as swiftly as his fine steed could carry him.

He set about spreading happiness in all the ways he could think of and all the ways his people could think of. The kingdom prospered. The people gave up their grumbling, though they still had taxes to pay. No they did not all live happily ever after, life is not quite that simple. But they all surely lived happier ever after.

Start lighting candles of happiness from your own candle of happiness – today. You can never minify your own in that way. Indeed, you will increase the light in the world for all – including yourself.

You Have Misunderstood God and Why That Affects Your Happiness

You have misunderstood God. Well, chances are you have. For millennia, humans have misunderstood the gods or God. They thought the gods could do something about the problems humans face.

Long, long ago, of course, people thought that the gods affected everything in their world. The world’s largest religion is still animism. Animism is essentially believing that there is a non-worldly spirit in each object: tree, rock, mountain, cloud, wind, etc.

So if folks directed their attention or worship toward these objects properly, those folks could get those spirits to respond as was needed. As I said this kind of devotion still exists in abundance in the world today.

The rest of the text for this post is found immediately after this video pane:

Then some people graduated to larger gods. Gods that ruled the sky or the winds or the oceans or the netherworld. Once again it was thought that enough sacrifice and supplication could get these gods to do as people wanted. Things like calm the seas so sailors would not drown, abundant crops so entire populations would not starve.

Then monotheism came into the world. Monotheism is devotion to and the worship of one god. One God ruled over all the earth and when people worshiped him properly and in sufficient quantity, God would do what they wanted. This God was often cast as a male.

Enough things did happen as people wanted that they could give credit to their gods or God for having delivered. A group of people grew up around these gods to tell the people how and how much to worship the goods or God. They were often called priests.

These priests often told the people how to be happy. That is they set up a strict code of conduct and as long as the people followed such a code, they could be happy. Because the priests had the power of the gods on their side, the ordinary folks believed the priests and followed their instructions.

So their happiness depended on their conduct. And that is where things stood until recent human history. I am afraid that there are still many people who depend upon their conduct for happiness. I do not mean that people ought to run wild with no restraint.

I mean that when your happiness depends upon how you conduct yourself in relation to gods or God, you are mistaken. You have placed your happiness in mistaken territory. The Vast Consciousness that is the Universe does not need your conduct. The Cosmic Consciousness does not need your worship or pleadings or anything, to respond to you.

But in that mistaken territory people still believe that if they conduct their lives in a certain way, they will get what they want from their God. Cure for cancer, new job, kids out of trouble, all these things and much more they believe will be forth coming if they treat God just right. Perhaps say just enough prayers and all will be well.

I am sorry but it does not work that way. The Cosmic Consciousness is on your side right now, before you do or say anything. What taps you into that Consciousness is forging a link, a connection between you and the Cosmic Consciousness. You do that through meditative type applications.

In other words, through such applications as meditation you forge a link between you and the Cosmic Consciousness. In this eternal bond you find true happiness. But you do not have to behave in a certain way in the outside world. You do not have to deliver so many hours of worship or so many words of prayer to feel this Cosmic Consciousness on your side. All you need is that nexus between you and the Cosmic Consciousness.

Then, as you dwell in that eternal, serene attachment, you call to yourself the aid of the Universe. You evoke the power of the Universe. When you have dwelt in that connection as you have needed, that which you want may materialize in your life.

Sounds like I am getting close to saying if you stay in that posture with the Cosmic Consciousness long enough, you will get what you want. Sounds like it, but I am not. You tell the Universe the what and the Universe will answer in time with the how.

In other words, it is you who determines what happens in your life. Do you see the reversal of roles, here? Used to be that the gods or God would determine what was to happen. Now it is you who determines what happens in your life. The responsibility for your life has shifted from gods-based to you-based. Your happiness is in your hands.

Once you have understood the Cosmic Consciousness well, you are on your way to happiness and demonstrating for yourself in your own life what you want. What’s left? You need to develop the connection between you and the Cosmic Consciousness beginning right now. Continue that relationship until you have all the happiness you can stand.
