TaWane came through my office door that had the sign “The Meaning of Life: To Be Happy” on it, black letters on white background this day. (I changed the format of the sign frequently.) TaWane was one of the youngest persons I ever life coached. He was just 17. He held a B+ average at high school, ran on the cross-country and track teams. Close cropped black hair, black eyes.

“What can I do for you TaWane?” I asked.

“Doc, you can tell me why I am here on this earth. It seems I am just another young black kid with a limited future because of an absent father and terrible neighborhood. So, what’s up with me?”

To say I was stunned to silence would have an understatement. “Well,. . .” I fumbled. This is one of those “How far down the rabbit hole do you really want to go?” questions. But he had asked it and maybe he was looking for a solid answer, not some hype and psycho-babble.

“TaWane, do you believe in some kind of God?” He said he did but not the one in pictures that people said were God. He had studied physics and knew some of the relationships within the universe, he said. So, for him God was not a wise old man in the sky directing traffic with hell as the consequence of driving badly. He stunned me once again into momentary silence.

“So we’ve got a God who is consciousness, pure consciousness. Buy that?” I asked. TaWane said he did. “What can Consciousness do?” TaWane proceeded to tell me he thought consciousness could do about anything it wanted. Pure Consciousness, God, he said, could create anything. “But does It create?” I asked.

That gave him a little pause, but only a little. TaWane said that God needed to create in order to experience. Pure consciousness is just that. Pure consciousness does not experience, it only “thinks” about experiencing.

He walked himself into his own explanation of why he was here on earth. “Are you also consciousness?” I asked him. He acknowledged that he was. “Yet, what do you do all day long?” I asked again.

He said, “I experience . . . ” He trailed off as the light in his eyes grew more intense. “And quantum physics tells me I am part of the One. It must be that I am some part of God – experiencing.”

“You are an individualization of the Consciousness of God, to experience on behalf of God. That is the reason you are here, now. This is the meaning of your life. Tell me, what do you feel when you are experiencing from what seems to be your connection to the One?”

TaWane said, “I feel . . . happy.” He had gotten it all wrapped up and ready to take home. TaWane “sailed” from the office that day. He survived his family and neighborhood and leads a productive life today. I first saw in him in the office more than 25 years ago.

You, too, experiencing this blog post, are an individualization of the consciousness of God, experiencing on Its behalf. When you experience life from the core of your being which is connection consciousness to consciousness with God, you are happy. You have found the meaning of your life.

The Meaning of Life, To Be Happy, and Never Let Your Mind Set Into a Mold

If you prefer text, please see below this video pane. Thanks.

Terra came through the door of my office with a confused look on her face. She was 37 with three kids and a husband. Dressed casually and comfortably. Brunette.  About 5′ 5″.

I said, “Please, have a seat.” When she had done so, I continued, “You look confused.”

“I am, Dr. Bob. It doesn’t seem like I can shift, mentally, into second gear or more, any more.” She said her patterns of living and reacting were all the same. Mostly stuff she learned as she was growing up. Her kids, she said, who were teens, often complained about how stuck she seemed to be. No new ideas, no trying anything new, not even cooking anything new and different.

So, I launched into the usual pattern, myself, of seeing if she had any trauma that might associate itself with mental inflexibility. We could discover none. I then asked how her religious life was going.

“Oh, I do all the right things, say all the right prayers, attend church almost every Sunday. Feel guilty when I don’t attend. Worry about my husband and kids going to hell when they die.”

“Do you worry about going to hell?” I asked.

“No, no, I’ve got that all taken care of. I was saved when I was ten. Been sure of heaven ever since.”

“I think you have what I call a ‘molded mind’.” Of course, that struck her as strange and humorous at the same time. She wanted to know what I meant. I told her I thought her mind had been poured into a mold like is used for gelatin. Terra had allowed her mind to set in the pattern and shape of that mold. And that’s all she had. Her ideas had hardened into dogmas. Dogmas only last a short time, especially in this age when the Internet and other factors more than doubles knowledge every six months or less. Basically, she followed her religion so closely that she had made her mind ossify, harden. She seemed so inflexible in mental activity because she could not see the dogmatic state she occupied. “It is God’s way, or the highway,” is the fashion in which some put it. Sometimes they are trying to be funny; sometimes they are declaring a doctrine. And one has to be very careful with doctrines and dogmas. While not being watched carefully, they often turn into lies made of concrete molded into certain templates. Into these templates everything else must fit: from family life to the use of recipes.

Startled, Terra blurted, “How can I become un-ossified?”
“You’ve got to find the meaning of your life. The meaning of your life is to be happy. Happiness never allows the status quo to remain in terms of our relationship to the world. You’ve got to break the pattern and the mold. You do that by making contact with God.”

“But I pray every day,” she protested. “Are they the same prayers?” I asked. She went pale. “Yes, they are exactly the same and have been for as long as I can remember.”

“Terra, you need new prayers. Better yet, you need spontaneous prayers. You need to pray as if everything is new everyday, because it is. When you meet God in your prayers, you will see that God’s love is ever the same, but God’s Universe is ever changing.”

“How do I do that?” she asked.

“Simply by sitting quietly and letting your thoughts flow. When the time comes in your quiet time, direct your thoughts to the specific concerns you have at that moment. Eventually, after some weeks or months of practice, you’ll be free of the tyranny of ossification. You’ll be mentally limber and supple again. It is frightening at first. But it becomes less so as you free yourself, bit by bit, from religious habits that no longer serve.”

Never let your mind and/or spirit settle into the pattern of some worn-out mold, like ancient gelatin. The meaning of life is to be happy, part of which is finding life new every new day.

The Meaning of Life: To Be Happy and What We See Is What We Get (0082)

If your prefer text — it is just below the video box. Thanks

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI2usvuWsmk

The meaning of life, to be happy, has a great deal to do with how we perceive things. I deliberately use the word “perceive” here because it has more meaning, for me, than the word “see.” This idea all started for me when Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “I’ll see it when I believe it.” A complete turn around for me and my perceptions.

Most everyone thinks that when an object is observed, that’s when we can believe it. Let’s pretend it is a very hot summer’s day and you are in deep need of cold, liquid refreshment. So you get yourself a cold drink. You go to the refrigerator and look for a can of your favorite beverage. In your fevered state, you cannot see anything there of what you want. Now your temper is rising along with the air temperature. You holler at your spouse, “Didn’t we have a can of such and such?” Your spouse hollers from the other room, “Sure we do. In the frig.”

“I don’t see it. I don’t think we have any.” Anger rising still. Your spouse comes to the frig and puts a hand right on the can and picks it up and hands it to you. Does sheepish describe how you feel just then? It was there all the time, but you didn’t see it. Your spouse walks away with a smirk-face. How could this happen?

It happens because we don’t see with our eyes. We perceive with our minds.  How many times has something you’ve been looking for “been staring you right in the face” and you couldn’t see it? (It has happened many, many times to me, as my spouse delights in pointing out.)

The universe is filled with vibrations and your brain and mind give meaning to those vibrations. Otherwise, they are not seen. So here is where we make the transition from beverage cans to happiness.

The vibrations are there. But there is no sense to them until your mind interprets what is happening with those vibrations. You don’t get to see anything until you believe it is there to be seen. The vibrations of happiness are all there, all the time. You have to believe that in order to have that. You have to believe you are happy in order to be happy. You have to believe there is meaning in life through happiness in order for meaning and happiness to be in your life.

The point for you is to believe that there is meaning and happiness for you, before you go looking for it. This belief you need is simply a decision you make. You decide to believe that the meaning of life is to be happy. When you believe there is meaning to life, you might be surprised as to how often you will see it. When you believe you can find happiness, you bump into it everywhere you look.

This is shown quite well, I believe, by the idea in quantum physics where it is the observer who makes the final determination as to the position or speed of an electron. An electron does not drop out of its wave function and become a particle until the observer perceives it. You see? What you believe is what you will see.

To have meaning in your life, to be happy, you decide that is what you will perceive. The decision to be happy comes before the actual manifestation of happiness. Start believing the meaning of life, to be happy, right this moment.
