The Meaning of Life and The Power of Belief

The meaning of life is to be happy. People want to be happy. You want to do the things that bring happiness to you. You want to manifest in your lives the things that come along with happiness. Why isn’t it happening?

First, we need to be clear that happiness is eternal within the human being. You just have to find it. You discover it through meditation by making connection with The Source of All That Is. (Some will name this concept “God.” It does really matter what It is called. It’s just that “God” sometimes has too much baggage to be helpful.) Happiness is found in this Divine Connection with the Cosmic Consciousness of The Source.

But suppose you are on your way to making and solidifying this connection. It is a lifetime process. You can make contact at an early stage, to be sure. But the practice of maintaining that happiness means regular and consistent meditation. On your way, you are supposed to be able to change. You are supposed to be able to manifest in your life the relationships and items that you legitimately desire. Good things.believe

Why doesn’t it happen? Mostly, greatly, because you have not changed your beliefs. Believe me, I know whereof I speak. I struggled mightily after I made connection with the Cosmic Consciousness to understand why I was not manifesting more quickly. And “quickly” is a relative term. Dr. Wayne Dyer claims, and I believe him, that he manifests things in his life quite soon after the idea occurs to him. For me it takes a while longer.

Why? Because some of my beliefs have not yet changed. Picture this: I was raised believing, being taught to believe that I was not worthy. Both my parents and my religion taught this. It was drummed in my hearing so that I knew nothing else. The word “knew” is operative here. My beliefs were so strong that they were a “knowing.” Knowing is a step beyond belief. You can believe that 2 + 2 = 4. But you certainly can also know it. I “knew” I was not worthy.

To make a long story short, this not-worthiness kept me from believing that things could be better in my life. When I began to change to a believe that I was worthy, first of happiness, then of manifesting, things began to change. It is an on-going battle for me. I must constantly be vigilant that this feeling of unworthiness does not creep back into my belief system. The battle is easier and shorter the longer I work with it. But it is still there.

If you are having trouble finding happiness or trouble manifesting in your life, it may be that you still believe something negative about yourself. A great place for you to find help if you think this is your challenge is The Morty Lefkoe Institute. Morty has made great strides in teaching people, including me, to drop beliefs that are holding them back. I highly recommend Morty. (I get no recompense for this endorsement.)

The power of belief is great. It can override even the best of our conscious intentions if they be at odds with our core beliefs. Check your beliefs beginning now. Find help in changing them if they are robbing you of happiness and manifestation. Don’t let the power of belief stand in the way of the meaning of life for you.

The Meaning of Life and What to Do about Others

whattodoaboutothers 600 x 70 pixels

The meaning of life has to do with you and others. Last post we explored what it meant to take care of you. How when the mask drops from the airplane ceiling, parents are instructed to put the masks on first. They help their children into the masks. If you haven’t saved yourself, in the case of airplanes, you cannot help your child.

So it is self first. But there are all these other people in the world. What to do? Not to mention all the additional flora and fauna in the world. What about them too?

You reinforce who you are by tending to these others. Actually, I believe, that all others are part of us. We are One. In the great One we all belong. So, when you do something for these others, you have done something for yourself. Imagine that. You cannot get away from helping yourself, even when helping others.

Whatever you do to improve the lot of the others who exist with you in the Universe you call home, you do for the othersbenefit of . . . guess who? YOU!

I am not asking you to give beyond your means here. I do not suggestion that you make yourself poor either financially or spiritually or physically. I only request that you believe beyond your present means. Believe that what you do for others has a positive outcome for everyone.

This came home to me on a TV news report. There was a sound bite concerning the health care debate. The woman said something like this, “I’ve got my own insurance. Let them get their own insurance too.” There was no sharing of self in that woman’s audio attitude or visible demeanor. (Many others, of course, are unable to “get” health insurance.) That’s when life gets blockaded within the person’s own spirit.

But happiness cannot contain itself. When you have found true happiness, by being in connection with The Source of All That Is, your happiness simply wants to bubble out. Those bubbles float the air currents like soap balls blown from a child’s bubble wand. They burst on whomever or whatever they touch. (Thus spreading a little soap on everything.)

I guarantee that when you find true happiness based on contact through meditation with The Source, you will want to do this too. But it won’t be a forced thing. You won’t feel as if you have to do this. You will just naturally want to do this. And it will feel effortless. Soon, you won’t even have to think twice about it. You’ll be floating happiness over everyone and everything you encounter.

And you will be the better for it. And that is the meaning of life – spreading happiness because you are happy.

The Meaning of Life and You (Me) First

The Meaning of Life and You Me First

A basic tenet of the meaning of life is to take care of yourself first. Yet this is one the hardest tasks people have to do in finding how to be happy in their own lives.

This is the deal when the flight attendant explains that if and when the oxygen masks drop from the plane’s ceiling, in the event of an emergency, parents are to put the masks on themselves first. Then put the masks on their child or children.

I was trained from an early age that everyone else came before I did. This was taught in my home where it was said often, “You are not the center of the world. Everything does revolve around you.” I was schooled in this idea in the churches I attended. (Forced to attend, by the way. Not a good idea.) The churches said that I must not think of myself, but always of others.

It was only when I began to understand that I was not whole, that I began to question this idea. And, of course, if I were to express any sentiment like this to my peers, I would be considered arrogant or conceited. That word “conceited” flew around high school as if it were a flock of very hungry pigeons.

This idea was deeply ingrained in me. As if it were mercury or lead poisoning – literally in the tissues of my mind and self.

But the ideas I was reading about self-care were correct, I found. If I wore myself out caring for others, as I was encouraged to do in my profession, soon I’d be totally ineffective because I would have no energy or compassion left. I would have expended it all on others. The when the next person came who needed compassion or counseling, there was nothing within me.

The only way I found to get over this was to accept a new belief within myself. I am not saying it was throwing a light switch and there was suddenly light in the room. I am saying that over time, I gradually convinced myself that If I didn’t take care of myself, I couldn’t take care of others. It was literally true. I reprogrammed my Self to believe that I did come first. This does not mean a became a strutting fool. It means I got the sleep I needed. I got the exercise I needed. I got the spiritual uplift I needed. When I needed these things. I began taking vacations and days off on a regular and consistent basis.

That’s what you’ve got to do with you. To be happy, to find the meaning of life, you have take the time and energy you need for yourself. You have to change your belief system. You do need to put yourself first when you want to be happy.  If you neglect you, you will not take the time to meditate, for example. You need to take the time to find your connection with The Source of All That Is.

When you do this take-time-for-yourself thing, you will then be closer to happiness. When you are closer to happiness, the meaning of life, you will be more effective in everything you do and say ans think. Including relating to other people who believe they need you.

Take time for yourself beginning in this moment. It is part of the meaning of life, to be happy.
