The Meaning of Life More Easily Found Through “When Everything Changes, Change Everything”

The book When Everything Changes, Change Everything will change your life for the better.

Today I depart from my usual blog style and subject matter and endorse a book I read just recently. (I get no return on this endorsement except the satisfaction of supporting something that I think will help you as it helped me.)

When Everything Changes, Change Everything by Neale Donald Walsch, the author of Conversations with God, is uncommon. In down-to-earth language and illustrations, Walsch has produced another book sure to become a classic. “In a time of turmoil, a pathway to peace,” is the very apt subtitle. Certainly timely. He explains the Mechanism of the Mind, the System of the Soul, and the Basics of the Body. Nine Changes are given and explored.

A. Change your decision to “go it alone.”
B. Change your choice of emotions.
C. Change your choice of thoughts.
D. Change your choice of truths.
E. Change your idea about Change itself.
F. Change your idea about why Change occurs.
G. Change your idea about future Change.
H. Change your idea about life.
I. Change your identity.

Em Claire is Mr. Walsch’s wife. For me, her poetry, some of which is included in the pages of this book, is just brilliant.

To top this all off, the physical book is just the beginning of an experience. You you can be interactive with a community of persons and resources online developed through the use of the book.

My steer: You will thoroughly relish this book and, if you permit it, this book will thoroughly change you for the better.

It is available now from your favorite online book seller or bookstore.

Take Control of Your Inner Life and Your Understanding of the Meaning of Life Will Increase

Many people go into their bedroom, stand in the middle of the floor and cannot remember what they were after.

Its not that they have a serious disease; it’s just that their minds have rolled on to the next thing before they got from the bedroom what they wanted. Suppose you were going the play golf and you needed your shoes which are stored in your bedroom closet. But after getting to the bedroom, you draw a blank. What are you doing there? What were you after? A simple thing made more complicated by the fact that your mind has gone on to the next step and the next step in preparation of swinging the driver on the first tee. Do you see? It’s not a faulty memory you’re dealing with. It’s simply that your mind has been rolling onto the next thing. What comes next in getting ready to golf, or in dealing with family issues? So you’ve forgotten what you set out to do.

In order to take control of your inner life and your short term memory,

you need to be present in the moment.

Not the last moment or last week. Not the next moment or next week. Be present in this moment. It is, after all, the minute you really have. Ruminating about the past won’t change it. Supposing about the future won’t guarantee it.

How do you do take control of your inner life? You use individual spiritual endeavor to focus, concentrate in this moment. Pull your mind away, by the power of your spirit, from beguilement. Spirit rules the mind when you make the effort to have the spirit do so. Take a moment to stop and think. Stop and think? But I just said the spirit rules the mind. By the power of the will which is contained within the spirit, make yourself halt and reckon. Concentrate on this minute. What is it you need to be or do in THIS moment?

What does this have to do with the Meaning of Life? Everything. Your life consists of this moment. That moment is defined in your inner life. If you miss this moment, you have missed the meaning of your life.

The Meaning of Life Is Coming Alive To Be Happy

Part of the meaning of life is to come alive.

Let’s face it – you cannot be anything or anyone if you are “less than alive.” By less than alive I mean unconscious. By alive I mean conscious. Most people think that they and those around them are for the most part conscious. Usually that is far from the truth.
What do I mean by unconscious? Not being aware of what is happening in you or around you. I remember back in the 60s when the Civil Rights movement was in full swing. I was watching television with friends and the evening news came on. The reports showed riots and injuries in several places around the country. Most of those who were watching TV with me showed no reaction, I noticed. I gently asked to make sure of observation. They all indicated that this did not affect them. Their lives were not touched by what was happening. I inwardly shook my head; I could not conceive that they were missing the “times, they were a-changin’.” Here were events coming to them in living color that were literally going to change their lives and it was almost as if they were blind.

What do I mean by conscious? To be aware of what is going on around and inside of you. Then to respond appropriately. But one needs to be “alive” to be aware. In order to be aware, one needs to focus. “Focus” is a word we hear a lot these days. Baseball players need to focus on the game and not on family matters during game time. Politicians need to focus on getting things done well for the people they represent instead of having their eyes only on the next election. Fathers need to focus on their children when they are in their care instead of being concerned more with the next beer.

How do you focus? How to make “to be” better in your life? Take time to think about what it is you are doing and being. When you kid speaks to you, are you as fully present to that children as you can be? When you fellow worker asks you a question because he or she needs you help, stop long enough to be fully present. When your spouse expresses concern over a family issue, open yourself as completely as you can to him or her. Be present by stopping, thinking, opening.

These will bring you closer to “to be” and, therefore, the meaning of life.

I recommend The Barking Unicorn. It is an excellent and interesting blog.
