“To Be Happy” is the Meaning of Life.
“To be happy” is the meaning of life. But the simple phrase, “to be happy,” is like a many faceted gemstone. When one looks at a faceted gemstone, many surfaces, many angles, many depths can be seen all at once. At first glance what appears to be a beautiful stone, say an emerald, my favorite, has a great deal more profundity and might be noticed – at first glance. To grasp the full significance of the gemstone, you need to take some time to examine it. But like so many things in life most of the time a person glances at a beautiful stone, takes in its brilliance and splendor for a second or two, and then moves on with life. Nothing wrong, absolute nothing wrong with moving on with life. But in this instance you might miss something of great value to you if you do not investigate and make your own all the “facets” of the idea of “to be happy.”
The first faceted we must study together is the idea of “to be.” Most of the persons in the world identify each other, and give each other a label, by understanding what they do. Are you a carpenter? A farmer? Stay at home mom? Lawyer? Teacher? Truck driver? Professional athlete? What do you do? Once again and of course, there is nothing necessarily wrong with what you do. But is what you do all of who you are? Many of us get so caught up in what we do that we forget who we are. You have more than one dimension, more than one facet as in a beautiful emerald. Certainly what you do is one important facet of who you are. But how many other facets to you have? And what is the sum total of all your facets and of the depth of your brilliance? You can see that you are more than what you do. There’s more to your being then your job title. It is in the depths of this “more” that you find out who you really are. And when you find out who you really are you can begin to get your way to happiness.
(I apologize if you have read this blog before. A while back, I accidentally blow my blog off the Internet. Had to start all over again.)
I recommend The Barking Unicorn. It is an excellent and interesting blog.
